In patients with cystic fibrosis, the energy intake must be higher than in the general population, due to the increase in basal metabolism, which can vary from 110% to 200% 1.
It is advisable to use easily digestible lipids such as MCT (medium chain fatty acids) in patients with impaired pancreatic function.
MCTs are digested more easily and the intake of pancreatic enzymes may be optional. The assumption of pancreatic enzymes must be evaluated by the specialist, depending on the clinical condition of the patient.
ZERÌ SNACK® is an ideal caloric supplementation in patients with cystic fibrosis. In fact, it is nutritionally balanced for these patients’ need, has a low glycemic index and contains only MCT fats, which are an energy source immediately available.
A serving (40 grams) of ZERÌ SNACK® provides 168 kcal, an additional caloric amount which is suitable to be consumed at any time of the day as a supplement to main meals.
ZERÌ SNACK®, as a low glycemic food, can also be taken by patients who have already developed diabetes.
The product should be used under medical supervision.
